New Concepts in Product Disclosure: How EPDs and HPDs will impact your building envelope
Tuesday, December 17, 2013 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

With the development of the latest green building standards and guidelines such as LEED, ASHRAE 189.1, and the International Green Construction Code, new concepts are emerging to report and document the sustainability of the products used in green buildings. These new concepts include Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs), as well as a number of multi-attribute product standards developed by ASTM, ANSI, and others. Because of the wide variety of materials required to construct the exterior skin of the building, the building envelope industry faces a daunting task of understanding and adapting to these new concepts.

In this webinar, Dr. Jim Hoff, Vice President of Research at the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing will guide you through the new jargon of product disclosure and provide a roadmap for your organization to adapt and thrive in the new era of material transparency.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the key underlying concepts of material disclosure and transparency.
  • Identify the newest product disclosure requirements incorporated in the latest versions of popular green building standards, codes and guidelines.
  • Review the important features and details of these new disclosure requirements, with an emphasis on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
  • Review how and when these new disclosure requirements will be introduced into the construction marketplace.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize principles and guidelines for rating the green performance of roofing systems.
  • Understand the relationship between roofing and energy usage.
  • Understand roofing's lifecycle impacts on the environment.
